DC-DC converter operational test
« on: December 11, 2015, 05:26:39 pm »
Hello everyone, my first post, but I've been a watching EEVBlog since the beginning.  I scored about 10 brand new DC to DC converters at an internship I did a couple years back for a military robotics company. Manufactured by Vicor and model number VI-223-IW-B1.  I attached the PDF for the unit.  They are 36V input at 135W max and 24V output at 100W max.  I've never used a DC to DC converter before, let alone one of this size or cost.  I have no test schematic so I am not sure how to properly operate this unit.  What I am confused about are the gate and sense connections.  The sense I think I can just ignore.  The gate though is strange to me.  I don't understand why it would be necessary to have a gate on a DC to DC converter.  Can anyone please shed some light on this or perhaps share a few words on how to properly connect these on the bench?  I just want to test them all so I call sell them on eBay.  Thanks.
