Connecting PCBs together
« on: March 04, 2017, 07:44:51 am »
Hi all.

Bit of an odd one. I need advise on connecting PCBs together like in a "H" arrangement.

I basically require 3 PCBs, 2 vertical and one horizontal.
The horizontal would need to connect to the two vertical ones either side.

What method is best for this?
I am thinking I need some tolerance with this. Not a lot but some.

Thanks
Jack,

Size?
Number of pins?
Permanent or pluggable?

My first thought was something like....

Boards are all 25x50mm.
Pins from 4 to 10.
Permanent.

Was thinking something along those lines.

Not sure if this matches your requirements but Mike shows one solution in this video - go to 8:17

Depends on the environment. If you are doing this at home for a hobby, what's suggested is fine. If you are moving to a design you plan to sell, consider that a solder joint is not meant for mechanical stability and using fasteners would be a better option.
Voltage appears across and current flows through.

If they are far apart where you can't connect them with pin header i recommend either ribbon cable or something along those lines.
