I found an IC in a power supply, the Texas Instruments Lm393, which I read is called a low power dual voltage comparator. What does a low power dual voltage comparator do?

What does a low power dual voltage comparator do?
It compares two voltages and tells you which is higher.

"Dual" means there are two separate comparators in the one chip.
