PCB design and fab help
« on: December 13, 2013, 05:13:44 pm »
Hey guys,

Honestly, I do not like veroboards. They are uncomfortable all the way from designing to soldering... However, I found the entry barrier to getting a PCB manufactured with any open source PCB design package extremely high so far.

Is there some online resource that walks one through the process of using, say, KiCAD, from scratch to a Gerber package I'm sending to the manufacturer? (Including things like creating a footprint for a phone jack socket I bought cheap off Mouser.)
Or a book, for that matter?

I'm not primarily interested in the technical details of how to design a good PCB, I've found a lot of resources about that. I'm more stuck on the hands-on details of using the software suite and ending up with a Gerber that will result in a PCB I'd expect. :) Also, I'd love to avoid using Eagle. :P
