Electronics book recommendations
(1/1)
fixit7:
I started reading Understanding Basic Electronics by Larry Wolfgang.
He explains well and keeps it interesting.
Good chapter on algebra to help with things like Ohms law.
I am looking for book recommendations also that have actual circuits, soldering techniques, and other hands on help.
Thanks.

Soldering techniques are one of the few topics that can benefit from a video. This lot is succinct and shows how to do it well and badly: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL926EC0F1F93C1837

I think "Getting Started in Electronics" by Forrest Mims does a nice job.
Videos re: just about anything you can imagine are on YouTube - including soldering. Look especially at SMD soldering and 'drag soldering'.

I'm currently studying Electronic Engineering at uni and have a couple of books that I turn to. Firstly is "Electronics: A Systems Approach" by Dr. Neil Storey.
I also have "The Art Of Electronics 3rd Ed" by Horowitz & Hill and the accompanying "Learning The Art Of Electronics" by Thomas Hayes. Hayes' book has circuits to build and study in great depth.
The Art Of Electronics (AOE) is possibly the most detailed book out there, but , it has so much in it that it can be a difficult book to read as a beginner. I'm starting to find it more useful at the end of my first year at uni.
As far as soldering skills, I don't know of any books. For me personally I like to just get on and have a go. I learn huge amounts by screwing stuff up with my own hands.
