My remote broke.
« on: September 27, 2014, 05:46:49 am »
So I have this remote that broke.

It's the power switch for a minix M1 air mouse remote.

Since I rarely use it I'm thinking about soldering it permanently in on mode. Is that possible to do?
I'm a bit confused since short circuit any of the connections don't seem to work.

Thankful for any help/thoughts.

Looks to be a breeze to repair.
Seems to have just popped off the pads, no ripped traces by the looks of things
Clean up the pads (rosin flux & wick)
Then re-solder!
2 minute job! ( or less) ;)

Before soldering it on permanently I would at least try to resolder the switch back in place. I might try to scrape back some soldermask around the points that hold the switch down to increase the mechanical strength.

 :-+ for including detailed photos.
Would a scalpel suffice as a scraper? Or what do professionals use?

Scalpel, dental pick, needle file, screwdriver blade are all "pro" tools for this.

I believe a Nexus 7 would also not work.

Update:

So I used what I had and the slim knowledge of soldering to fix my remote.

It ain't pretty but it works.

Thanks for your help and support.

Perhaps you could have found someone to help? It would have been very easy to solder that switch back on.

Can you please turn this off?

Man, you wrecked that button.
I remember myself soldering 0805 LEDs with that kind of soldering iron. You should really get a soldering station, even the 20$ yihua one would be better than that industrial one.

Yeah I'm a bit short on money atm.
I'm gonna be saving money to buy a Weller station. Would be fun to solder some more, maybe I'll go back to this one again and see if I can do a better job.

;D

If I had been drinking something, that would have been a spray worthy remark.
