Exceeding thermal camera temperature range

(1/1)

4cx10000:
Hi!

What happens when the object temperature exceeds the object temperature range of a thermal camera? Tried to search but I could not find an answer or may be so that i did not fully understand what I read.  :palm:  I was looking at a FLIR C3 which has an object temperature range of -10°C to 150°C (14°F to 302°F and that will probably be just fine to most of my measurements, but what will the display show if the object I am pointing at has a temperature of 500°C?

Zero999:
It will most likely go off-scale

Thank you Zero999!

Well ... with other words then, if needed: better to buy a thermal camera with a wider object temperature range. I realize that I have to read up more on thermal cameras before I decide what to buy.  ;D

JustMeHere:
You might want to look at how to filter.  Ex if you can find something that will filter out 400 C then anything that is 100 C through the camera will be 500 C

Hi JustMeHere!

Thanks for your advice, but I am not sure how to practically deal with this. I was reading about different filtering and realized that it could be a not so easy task. However, it is of course possible, but with for example a FLIR C3 it feels a little scary. Have to read more about it or just simply pick another camera, but that would of course reveal in a not planed, extended budget.  ;D
