Where to buy electronic components ?
« on: June 26, 2012, 02:15:25 pm »
Hi everyone,

First of all, I'm new here on the forum so I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to write this.

During Dave's live show I asked him what he didn't like about doing a project and he replied by saying he hates to wait for components.
I think you'll all agree with Dave here, but there's something more annoying than that !
Waiting for the components and then not receiving what you have asked.  >:(

Today, I finally received my components and I got this :

instead of this:

For all you people in Belgium, DO NOT order from conrad.be.
Some of my friends had ordered stuff from them and also got other components than what they had asked.

Anyways, where do you guys order your components ?
Digikey seems pretty good, but there's a lot of components. I couldn't even find a 1.5VA 12V output transformer  :-[ (Yep I'm no good at searching stuff, haha)

Cheers,

pyroesp

The digikey search is one of the best out there. Once you understand how it works you can find anything really fast.

digikey , mouser, avnet , newark... in that order ...

buying transformers internationally is a bad idea.. 110 220 problem and heavy shipping weight.
go to local store
vandenberghe electronics in waregem
Davotronics in oudenaarde
Verbayes  and international electronics in krotrijk or any other store in belgium. there's plenty.
brussels has a few large ones.

( yeah, i'm originally from the land of beer, fries, waffles a, chocolate, diamonds, and world champion tennisplayers .. but i moved because getting electronics was too hard. :) )

Haha
Local store is a rip off, they sell it like 3 times the price I can get it on a website.
I paid 12€ for a 1VA 12V/24V transformer. I just bought one for 3.5€/4€ or something like that.

Thanks guys. Next time I'll try digikey ;)

Cheers

About the transformers it is truth,a local stores sells some 24-0-24 transformers of 225VA for 65€....i got a PORTUGUESE(not chinese)custom made transformer 50V 250VA for 57€...

And about the quality of the custom transformer i may say than it is good...it has a very good efficiency(i can't heat it,it must sit connected for 5 hours to heat up at near 40ºC),the cooper wire than makes the transformer is thick(near 1.5mm for secondary and 1mm for primary)of course than the weight of it is not the best(5kg)

I will try to find some similar transformers on digikey to see the price...huum...digikey transformers confuse me...no primary and secondary voltage.
