« on: January 06, 2024, 09:53:59 pm »
i have one of the cheap chinese component testers with the 2 row lcd readout,if i measure an inductor, one that looks like a 2w resistor it reads fine ie 1uh,if i try and measure my roller coaster inductor it just reads as a resistor no matter where the roller is adjusted to along the coil,is it faulty?.

There are only 3 possible faulty items:

1.  The roller coaster inductor.

2.  The measuring device.

3.  The user.

It's the automatic function of the tester. Those testers usually work at 1Khz which may be far to low to create any reactance for the tester to detect. Not sure if I'm wording that right. But
it does have something to do with the test frequency on very low value inductors. This can happen on more expensive  testers unless set from auto to manual and/or increase the frequency of the test higher than 1Khz.
