Oscillator with 4060 counter
« on: June 24, 2013, 06:25:03 am »
Hi,

I first built this circuit (Attached) with HEF4060BP and it worked perfectly.
When I built it with a SN74HC4060 it doesn't work and I cannot figure out why.

What is your supply voltage?

3.6-4.2V

I would check the specifications of each.  A cursory look tells me they have slightly different characteristics and the HC might react differently to that voltage then the HEF.

Weird, I just tried it with a 4MHz oscillator and it works.

I had exactly the same issue with a 32kHz crystal, ended up making a separate oscillator out of a spare inverter.

Yes, I tried it without resistors and also with lower value resistors 2.2k & 100k.

Is there any reason not to use 4000b series chip instead of 74hc series? 4000b chip works and with same Vcc  it should be compatible with rest of circuit if you use 74HC chips there.

I tried it with CD74HC and it works.

If I can figure out why it's not working with the SN74HC, maybe I can find a solution that only involves replacing passives, and avoid throwing out all the chips.

I mixed up the part numbers in the last reply, now it's correct.
