New Multimeter...
« on: September 30, 2012, 01:20:50 pm »
I just bought a new multimeter; VolcraftR VC830. Because I'm beginner in electronics and I am only 13 years old and I can not afford one of the fluke multimeters I'm asking people for some advices if this VC830 is good or not.

Description:

A new series multimeters manufacturer Voltcraft ®. Rugged, reliable, with practical equipment, ergonomic design, safe for the user - these are all features of this professional multimeter. This multimeter is synonymous with safety. Special casing construction makes it lightweight for battery and fuse open only when the device you are separated from all measuring leads. Built-in function TLD ® (TDL = Test Lead Detection) alerts the user in the measurement incorrectly connected cables. For input voltages> 30 V appears on the display warning symbol. The unique concept of security can help with the following features: robust casing with sprayed soft-rubber protection, 1,000 W power fuses with the ability to separate and 30 kA switching impedance by pressing reduces the input resistance for the prevention of erroneous measurement results arising from loss of voltage. Among the standard equipment also includes an optical interface. The device is for measuring the overvoltage category CAT IV 600 V and CAT III 1000 V and has been tested in accordance with EC 61010th.

Specifications:

Measuring range capacity: 0.01 nF - 4000 microF
Weight: 380 g
Basic accuracy of ± 0.5%
Measuring range AC amps: 0.1 microA - 10 A
Optical Interfaces
Dimensions: (W x H x D) 91 x 185 x 43 mm
Power supply: 9 V battery
Calibration possible according to ISO / DKD
Measuring Range DC amps: 0.1 ?A - 10 A
Measuring range DC voltage: 0.1 mV - 1000 V
Measuring category: CAT IV 600 V, CAT III 1000 V
Measuring frequency range: 10 Hz - 10 MHz
Measurement ? range: 0.1 ? - 60 MOhm
Display: 6000 counts
Measuring range: AC voltage 1 mV - 750 V

Yes, very good meter to start with. Made by Uni-T in China, model 61C probably. Enjoy it!

Same case as UT61x but different button design and different range knob, but it's still a Uni-T i think
Or maybe it might be the UA < which is a bad clone

It is the Uni-T 61, Conrad in Germany sells most of the Uni-Trend range under the Voltcraft brand name.

It is not a UT61 case. Even if it is internally, the 61A-D models aren't great.

Look carefully, it's the UT61, just different range switching knob and different shaped buttons.

You look carefully. It's not the same size or layout. It's very similar, almost certainly a Uni-T product, but it is not a UT61 case.

Notice how different the back is.

Definitely made by Uni-T, based on the 61 range, for Voltcraft. There are some internal differences too. The top of the range VC870 (40,000 counts) has a backlight, temperature probe and can do power measurement, with the external mains connection of the 71E. So it would be interesting to compare PCBs and see how the Germans improved the design. ;)

Different it may be, but it's a poor copy of the UT61, i have seen it before
Tell me about how the fonts look exactly the same, as with the curved bottom and the IR port?

Looks like this one is a straight rebranding of the 61D:

It's a Uni-T meter. That's how. I don't know about the internals, but the case is only superficially similar to the 61 series.

Well, the bottom line is that this is a pretty good first meter for a 13 year old. It has to meet all the European regulations to be sold in Europe and it comes with a decent local warranty. We may even find that it is a better meter than the Uni-T because of the beefy protection required. I like how the fuses were repositioned on the PCB to avoid having to open the case each time a fuse has blown.
The price is a bit high, but that's par for the course, buying in Europe.

When you feel confident enough, take it apart and post some pictures of the board, to compare it to the UT-61. Zabavajte se z njim  ;)
