Fluke 196 Scopemeter - Is this working?
« on: May 24, 2019, 04:00:46 am »
Hey everyone,
I've been in touch with a guy on CL who's selling a Fluke 196. He's sent me a picture of the unit turned on, but I'm not sure it's actually functioning correctly. In the pic you notice there's no flat reading across the middle of the screen. In most of the pictures I've seen of one of these units powered on, it's had that flat reading.

Am I seeing that correctly? Is it maybe not switched on to that particular setting? I'm pretty green with scopes and haven't actually had my hands on a 196 yet so any input would be helpful.

I've included a picture of the one I'm talking about, and another I found on eBay.

The top photo:  In full auto my 196C goes to 100mV / 10ms / the trigger has the same shape. It my not have triggered yet, so no trace.  I do not know if it will trigger.  It is also showing in the upper right corner that is being powered by the AC adapter, so the batteries my be shot.  They are not to expensive if you do not by them from Fluke.  I have replaced mine once.  The Fluke Probes cost about 200 US dollars each, if I remember correctly.

Bottom Photo:Shows fully charged batteries.  The trace looks wide to me, but we have no way of seeing if the scope is connected to anything.

Advice is a dangerous gift, even from the wise to the wise.
