Fluorescent Light In Floor Lamp Ceased Working Today

Have bought E27 15W fluorescent bulb 2700K a week ago and after about half day, it ceased working. No burned smell, simply ceased working and i checked with other lamps.

How could new bulb cease working that fast?

So Gas loss usually occurs after first use of bulb? Is slight touching fluorescent bulb will damage/allowed when it's working?

Boris,it just looks like you got a faulty one.
Unfortunately,you can't see if they are faulty when you buy one.

These lamps are usually made very cheaply these days. A proper quality bulb should cost about $15, but then people wouldn't buy them. So they cut corners and cut quality and pare costs to the bone and you get failures.

Got it. I have question though. The more wattage bulb is, the more heat it produces and has higher chance of failure?

Higher wattage usually just means longer tube.
I haven't observed a higher failure rate with the powerful fluorescents. Quite the contrary actually, but that may be because in the old days compact fluorescents with high wattage were only available from quality manufacturers.
With compact fluorescents you usually get what you pay for....

Something to keep in mind - If you have a fixture designed for bi or quad pin CFL lamps, you can NOT change the wattage of the lamp. The electronics in the fixture are designed to make one wattage work only.

No pins in my case, only usual E27 Edison screw.

Okay, dealer replaced bulb but earlier i have noticed that their package says "Not Dimmable". Look:



Now, my floor lamp says "MAX 100W". Look:



First, what "Not Dimmable" means if my floor lamp does not have dimmer control? Can it be that wattage in floor lamp jumps? What if voltage will have spikes in my house? Will that dimm the bulb?

Second, floor lamp was bought 5 years ago at least. I assume "Max 100W" refers to incandescent bulbs? That means i can still use 100W fluorescent bulb?

I am trying to figure out if floor lamp was the culprit of bulb's failure. China is where this bulb was made.

Not dimmable means you can't use it with a dimmer switch. It's true of nearly every CFL, one reason I hate them. Every light in my house has a dimmer switch on it.

The 100 W limit refers to incandescent bulbs--it's due to the heat produced by such bulbs. CFLs run cooler so heat shouldn't be a problem.

I have not seen a dimmable CFL, but I have seen dimmable LED lamps. In fact every LED I looked at recently was dimmable, but they also cost $20 or more per lamp, and are mostly PAR reflector designs.
