Grounding Strap
« on: August 15, 2021, 05:49:42 pm »
Hi,

I was taking a microwave apart today. Around some wires I found a strap wrapped around and connected to the chassis for grounding, it had earth sheathing.

Was it to prevent / cut down EMF?

Would it be useful for me to use this method in places around my DIY CNC (in addition to the ferrite beads)?

Sorry for daft question, but been meaning to join for a while and finally get around to learning more, need to start somewhere...

Thanks

Not really, more there to manage the cables, to keep them in a neat loom and routed correctly, so they are not going to rub on the case, or on the interior of the cavity, but keep them neat and in place. The sleeve on the tab is there to provide more insulation, so the high voltage in the cable does not break down the insulation with time and arc over to the metal chassis.

There were numerous cable ties as well, also the cables still touched the body in places.

No matter
