That looks very promising.  I will probably still need a preamp in front of it.
Why? The output of the comparator should be 0V to 5V, which should trigger the monostable with no preamplifier.

My input signal is on the order of 10uV pp.  I just guessed that there would be some minimum hysteresis but looking at spec sheets now I see that "internal" hysteresis is in fact a special feature and that many comparators can change states on just uV difference on inputs.  (Correct me if wrong.)

Cool, this is probably a much better solution!
