Gain Compression Measurements Using a VNA
« on: September 23, 2021, 11:40:53 am »
Hi all,

As the theory states, when an active device or an amplifier is driven into saturation, the output is no longer sinusoidal with some of the power being present in the harmonics. Doing S-parameter measurements under such conditions would result in an inaccuracy of data. A feature within many VNAs is 'gain compression'. Disregarding equipment such as a PNA-X/NVNA, how do VNAs measure saturated power/gain compression accurately?
