giving power to a usb-c port
« on: February 15, 2024, 07:36:04 pm »
Hi,
I need to provide power to a usb-c port in the simplest possible manner. This port is in a device that is supposed to charge some internal battery, but I don't care about the internal battery, I want to have it fully charged all the time. (I don't have access to the internals of the device). I have a 12v source available on my circuit. Can I just connect the 12v to the VBUS and GND pins and that's it? or do I need a module that supports the USB Power Delivery protocol?
Thank you

No, you can't just connect 12 V to VBUS. You need to drop it to 5V. You generally don't need power delivery, unless your device can't work with the default 5V at all.
