UT61D Problems
« on: December 12, 2012, 03:17:36 pm »
Hi all, just received this morning a UNI-T UT61D from eBay.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320921198767

Now unless I'm being very stupid, this multimeter is dead, the meter comes boxed with a 9V battery, I unscrewed the back cover and put in the 9V battery (it only fits in one way and I'm certain the polarity is correct), but when I turn the dial nothing at all shows up on the LCD display.

I've contacted the seller but haven't received a response as of yet, has anyone here had any similar issues or is there anything I need to do first to get the meter up and running?

First, Did check the battery or did you try a known good 9V battery?

If the battery is not dead and is making good contact, send it back. It should display something as soon as you turn the range switch to any position.

Tried a new battery and no such luck. :-(

I'm situated in the United Kingdom and this has been posted from Hong Kong so hopefully the seller will ship a new one, otherwise it'll be at least a month until this is sorted out.

grrr,

Will keep you posted.

I notice there is an RS-232 and some sort of infrared interface, I take it that this isn't necessary purely to get the multimeter up and running?

Do not expect to much. 409shop seems to be a good firm, that is, so good that people take the trouble of copy them.
The meter you ordered is as far as I can find everywhere between 60 and 100 dollar. Yours was 28 dollar. That would be to good to be true for me.  ;) So it can be a fake or used one.

The real 409 shop in the link downhere ( that uses the same picture/logo ect) asks much more as 28 euro and warns for copycats:

A Dutch Ham bought a porto at the copycat 409Shop. It did not work when he received it. He returned it, costed him 17 dollar, they told him they would send a new one, the new one also did not work ( not strange because it had the same serialnumber, only the box was changed, so a pure scam)

I believe it's 28 UK pounds (plus shipping) that the OP paid. As a seller from HK myself I know this price is not impossible. It basically just means other shops selling them for much higher price either have a really fat profit margin, or that someone else in the supply chain has.

Prove them with a video that the meter is dead. Rather than leaving a bad feedback straightaway try to work out a solution with the seller. Be patient. Only open a case before the limit date. And next time buy from well known people;)
