I want to get a Schmitt trigger (hex?) to experiment on.
Any suggestions for an all purpose example please?
Thanks.

ALL purpose? Impossible!
The other likely candidate is CD40106 (15V CMOS, slow and weak).
74HC is the go-to 5V, reasonably fast CMOS family.

Beauty, thank you.
I know it's hard to recommend a part when I am so vague but until I get experimenting I don't know what I need.
I'll go for the 74HC14.
