Title: Heat-Gun Temperature
Post by: PerPC on May 09, 2012, 12:56:38 am
Before i disassemble this iphone i need to know whats a safe temperature to use on my heat gun to melt the glue that encases the phone just good enough to cut through it around the sides. So once again, here i am EEV. A little word of advice goes a long way. Thank you for your time.

General info. Most hot glue usually melts under 200C.  Most electronics tolerate >=250C for 10 seconds, of sustained heat.  Ordinary hot glue will melt in < 100C, way within the safe range of parts.

In the case of the iPhone, any plastic is the shell will not take hot air without some some change.  You can open most iPhones, at least 3G and under, with just a suction cup and screwdriver, no hot glue there.  Youtube has so many how-tos on this.
