What type of transistor is this?
« on: June 03, 2021, 12:31:07 pm »
Hi, electronics newb here, I have managed to repair the board I was working on by replacing the transistor from a donor but would like to know what type of transistor this is.

It is marked 1013, it shows 42v on input pin (pin 3?) and about 41.8v on pin (1?) and 0v on pin 2. When then on/off switch is pressed further down line of pin 1 and current flows it gives 42v on pin 2, so all pins are at full voltage.

That is one of the strangest data sheets.  Power dissipation in the hundreds of Watts, and curves unlike the usual plots one might see for a transistor.

...Power dissipation in the hundreds of Watts...
I would guess that there should be an "m" in front of those units. It doesn't inspire confidence in the rest of the data.

Yes you are right, they should be 'mW; not 'W', You can find a lot of data sheets for 2SA1013 here:

as far as visible (Mouser, Digikey etc), the original 2SA1013 is long time obsolete and according to the Toshiba datasheet there wasn't any SOT89 version from their side either; so it's a china product with who knows what properties.
