Help identify component
« on: December 20, 2019, 06:27:31 pm »
I am trying to repair a board with a component I cannot identify.  (Please see attached). Component in question is marked c138 which would lead me to believe it's a capacitor however looking at it it looks like a diode with the polarity marking.  I'm thinking this is some type of cap with 2.2uf and 35 volt rating.  Am I on the right track here?

Yes, it is a capacitor.  But C122 Looks like your problem

Just adding that it's probably a Tantalum capacitor, and yes it should be 2.2uF and 35V rating.

Also,
But C122 Looks like your problem

I agree.

Thanks guys.  C122 is indeed the problem or at least a problem but shares the same markings as c138.  I figured given the state of C122 it might be easier to identify C138.

It very conveniently says right on the board what it is. Definitely a tantalum capacitor, with a little luck it will be your only fault as shorting out is a notorious failure mode of tantalum capacitors which are otherwise excellent in nearly every respect.
