Help with my uCurrent
« on: December 22, 2014, 11:11:44 pm »
hi, I've just started using my uCurrent. The version is Rev 5.
Circuit I am using is a simple 3V CR2032 with a 15k resistor.
The 3v battery measures 2.96v , and measuring the circuit with the DMM I get 0.196 mA current, which is good.
My cheap DMM have display up to 199.9 and therefore my mV range will read up to 200mV.

However, when I use my uCurrent (Batt OK light is on) I have the following issues:

1) in the mA and uA range with nothing connected to the current input
, my DMM in mV range reads -2.4 . In the nA range it reads 0.

2) with uCurrent in mA range, I connect the circuit with 3v battery and 15 k resistor in series to the
uCurrent current input. Dmm reads  -25.8 , which is nothing like the 0.197mA measured with DMM alone.

am I using this device incorrectly ? please advice.
I have also tried several new cr2032 batteries, they all yield the same result.

Hi, it sounds like there could be some issues with your circuit or measuring technique. Could you describe how exactly do you connect your circuit to uCurrent? Picture or schematic would do. What DMM are you using? How do you connect DMM to uCurrent?

To use uCurrent with 3V battery + 15kOhm resistor connect battery and resistor in series with uCurrent current inputs, connect your DMM across uCurrent voltage output and turn on uCurrent in uA mode (you mentioned mA mode - it should be uA mode).
uCurrent output is in low mV range, not every DMM is capable of measuring so low accurately.
