"Connect test leads" message on Uni-T multimeter

Yesterday I got a second-hand Uni-T UT58C multimeter and the damn thing keeps showing the abovementioned message. And yes, I do have test leads connected and it works. The message is just annoying me.

So do I have to go through some secret ritual to make it go away?

maybe it wants you to touch the probes together to zero itself.

Yeah, seen that but all it does is tell you to plug the test leads into the correct sockets. Which they are.

maybe it wants you to touch the probes together to zero itself.

First thing I tried. Unless it expects some naughtier touches that isn't it.

Open in up and see if all connections are OK on input jacks. It can easily be a bad connection on one of the split jacks that is causing device to think that leads aren't connected

I'm pretty sure that meter has no actual lead detection, it just displays a static indication based on the mode you're in showing you how to connect the leads - you just have ignore it.
