Cable strippers with a single blade
« on: January 17, 2022, 09:44:10 am »
I have a cable stripper for coax cables, specifically this which has 3 blades.
It has three blades. Many times I need to strip multiwire cables other than coax, for instance this

Are there single blade tools? I do not want to remove the blades from the one I have, I'd like to keep as it is for actual coax cables.

Try a Google (images) search for "mini UTP stripper", that'll probably throw up something suitable.

There are wire strippers like this: <attachment 1>
They can do multiple wires, but may not be wide enough for your needs.

For ribbon cable, I just use a spring clip and hot air gun <attachment 2>.  I believe there are commercial units available but don't have a link handy.  If I were only doing a few (as is my case), I use the spring clip.  Insert the wire, heat with hot air until it is hot enough, then pull.  Hot enough is based on vision, timing, a little practice, and smell if PVC.

Nice Idea for the ribbon cables,I'll try next time I need to!
