My Uni-T UT61E (auto ranging) meter starts beeping like crazy when I have set it to manual range and go over the limit of that range (DC Voltage mode).
My question: is it bad for the meter or is it just a warning that you've exceeded the maximum voltage of that range so the displayed value isn't correct?

No it shouldn't have any negative effect on any decent DMM as long as you haven't gone above the absolute maximum that the meter can measure. It's just letting you know that you're out of range.

Thanks for the quick response.
Nice to know, I thought I might damage it when it happens but it seems to be alright then :)
