Hock-o never even occurred to me. It figures that would be the correct pronunciation. |

It never occurred to me that anyone would pronounce it any other way. With double consonants after the vowel you won't get the long a pronunciation. That's basic English I remember learning back in 1st or 2nd grade. Perhaps the rules are different in UK English, I don't really know. |
| TERRA Operative:
Looking at the name in Japanese (白光), it literally translates to 'white light'. (白 is 'shiro' or the colour white, 光 is 'hikari' or light/shine/sparkle/my son's middle name) The pronunciation of that in Japanese is Ha-Ko, said staccato with just a slight extension of the 'o' sound. (Ha as in Hat, Ko as in Copper) |

Really insightful, so I shall start calling it Ha Co as the two other ways I have heard it are different than the official way. |
