I bought a micro USB port that I intended to use to supply 5V to a project (no data). It was part of a larger order and I didn't check the pin dimensions as thoroughly as I should have, and so I have a relatively expensive USB port that I have no easy way of connecting to my prototype project. Or any project for that matter.
Samtec SPM-05-S-B-RA-PF datasheet (PDF).It's a right angle through hole panel mount component, but I think would pretty much require a custom PCB. Is there a connector (or individual pin connectors) that might work with that? I didn't have any luck searching.
If it comes down to it, I might try tinning the pins and soldering wires to them, but due to their tiny size, close separation, and surrounding plastic, there's not a lot to work with. I don't need the thing to be easily removable later, I just need a decent connection on the power pins.
I guess a third option would be to simply order a more suitable connector, but I'm feeling a bit stubborn at the moment.
