Don't throw out that used braided solder wick
« on: April 19, 2021, 03:06:47 pm »
It turns out to be really useful for tinning copper claded stripboard, I didn't need to add any solder to the wick to do this though I did add some extra flux.  I'm sure it could be used to tin any type of solderable surface.

I like the idea - even using a fresh piece of braid to "swab" the traces is a good idea, if you don't have any used ones to hand...

Fresh braid is good too, I didn't have much "used" solder braid when I did it and thought for sure I'd have to add some fresh solder to do the whole board but no, a small amount of used braid was enough.  I think I could do 2 more boards with the same braid.

Also you can reuse used braided solder wick as a low resistance grounding wire  :-+
After some cleaning with IPA of course.
