How to ground: power supply (-) connect to ground
« on: February 25, 2020, 03:49:37 pm »
Hi together,

I have a general question about grounds. I have a curcuit and all parts share one ground. It includes a 24V DC power supply and I connected (-) to ground. I also connected the ground of the signal inputs to this shared ground. Could this be dangerous for the signal path?

In principle the question is more general. When can one share a ground for everything? Or should one separate grounds of the circuit from the "input signals"?

I'm just afraid of destroying the machine which sends signals to the circuit. It also feels weird to connect a 24V DC powersupply to the same ground as the signal inputs.

Thanks in advance for your comments! :)

Connect all "grounds" together in one place (star topology ground) and you will be fine.
