That's because for electric current to flow there must be a return path. Concerning your circuit. If it still doesn't work after all suggestions, then there is a mistake in wiring or something. I suggest start from scratch and add "building blocks" one by one: diode, resistor divider, zener clamp, opamp, and output circuitry. Strictly in this order checking with the oscilloscope the circuit works the way it should. Otherwise troubleshooting may take forever. |

Thank you for your time. I think i would go with the optocoupler idea and see how that goes. |
