Identify letter of formulas
« on: May 05, 2019, 05:32:04 pm »
Hello folks,

I was surfing on internet and I found this image (https://i.pinimg.com/originals/59/7a/3a/597a3aa0e2288887d9469126924ec762.jpg )
Exist many letter "s" around the images. This letter means seconds?

Thanks

Probably explaining why it is seconds for all the formulas, I'll leave that for someone else ::)

Not a nice image. It's showing "." for multiplication instead of a proper multiplication symbol.

The dot is common means of depicting multiplication. I have no problem with its use - which is entirely appropriate here.

<pedantic hat>
"." is commonly understood in this way, in plain text. It is a poor substitute, used when the correct symbol is unavailable.

While we can't [easily] change the image now, we can write it properly here: using LaTeX, \$ \cdot \$, using HTML ·, using Unicode, ยท.

The SI also accepts spaces (https://www.nist.gov/pml/special-publication-811/nist-guide-si-chapter-6-rules-and-style-conventions-printing-and-using 6.1.5), or, hmm, that's the NIST actually, but it's probably the same. Note that's a non-breaking space, of course.
