Identify SMD components. One with a square dot, other iridiscent
« on: February 18, 2021, 11:36:21 am »
Hello,
Could anyone help me to identify what kind of components are the ones on the pictures?
The first one is like a resistor but with a square mark on top. Size 0402 or 0603.
The other is slightly bigger. With an iridiscent colour (see both pictures to appreciate change in colour)

Thank you very much.

The first item (square dot) is a zero ohm resistor ("jumper"): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-ohm_link

Other pictures are too fuzzy on my display.  The single line, if that's what they have, may also mean zero ohms.

jpanhalt,
Thank you for the answer.
The first component is giving 1 ohm when measeured with multimeter. It should be 0 if it was a zero ohm resistor.
About the other component, sorry for the picture quality. It has a greenish shiny colour with a line in the middle but is not looking at all like a resistor. Also, it gives about 25 MOhm with a non steady value with multimeter.

We live in non ideal world, with non ideal components... 1 Ohm is fine for a smd jumper.

It could be a blown fuse, if you mean 25 Meg Ohm.
It is smd film capacitor, like panasonic ECPU series.

mvs,
Awesome. Te second component is ECPU panasonic series capacitor. I had never seen this kind of capacitor. Always the typical yellow ceramic or tantalum.   Thank you very much.

About the first component. I have used zero ohm resistor many times and they never give 1 Ohm. I could bear 0.1 - 0.2 Ohm but 1 Ohm is too much for a jumper. Also the square marking of this components usually looks like a 0 (I mean, an empty square) and this is not. I will keep looking for another thing that fits better (maybe Im worng, but... what can I say? Im a little bit stubborn  ;D)
