What is the name of this component?
« on: September 20, 2015, 08:44:21 pm »
Hi all,

I've just got a CB radio so I can get my head around RF, the one I ordered has buttons instead of a channel knob but a mic with channel up and down buttons.  I can't have a CB radio without a proper channel dial - so I'm planning to build a little pre-mic circuit in a box with a proper channel knob.  You know, it's like a potentiometer but it's also like a switch because it latches in at each channel. Does anyone know what that component is called?

I've had a good search on ebay for various things like "channel dial", "channel tuner" and "latching potentiometer" but no luck.

Can anyone help?

Best,

Cyclic

I think a "rotary encoder" is what you're looking for.  Example:

Thank you so much!

I've been googling around that sort of term for a couple of days - quick google makes that look like the culprit - an incremental one for my purposes by the looks of it.

Kind regards and thanks again,
