Is a LED PSU suitable for other tasks?
(1/1)
exit_failure:
I have a Meanwell APV-8-5 constant voltage PSU (Datasheet: http://cdn-reichelt.de/documents/datenblatt/D400/APV-8-SPEC.pdf). I would like to use is to power other things like arduino nanos and the like but everywhere I look, this PSU is always only advertised for LED applications. Since it's constant voltage and not current it should - in my understanding - work like any other standard PSU. Are there any drawback or even dangers in using this supply for something else than LEDs?
Zero999:
It should be fine, as it's constant voltage. Just because it's designed for powering LEDs, it doesn't mean it can't be used for anything else.
viperidae:
It also has 0.25v output ripple too.
Not so bad for fixed installation of led lighting.
I wouldn't want to be using it for anything that needs a smooth power rail
JustMeHere:
I run computers that take a pico power supply off of LED power supplies.
