Is this Sorensen power supply the model for all those out there ?

I just run into this post.     I wonder if the MASTECHs and the likes are related in some way.

I thought SORENSEN made quality products.    Was this a case of bad cloning of a good product ?

Sorensen is the ducks guts, the cats pyamas so this is surprising,
no, i'm not sure about this, if they rebranded a TTi it would be somewhat ok but not some chinese low-grade PSU's...?

but, again, many manufacturers get their own "low-cost" or "value"-line of products, Elektro-automatik is one example of high quality manufacturer that went with lowered quality in some "value"-series.

I've used one of those before, except analog meter movements.  It's linear and does what it says.  Nothing remarkable.  Didn't test for anything, just used it.

I think the button style is either coincidence, or Chinese copying this one.  Note that the face plate and enclosure are slightly different.  The fact that they all use LED displays is merely standard for decades.

If you can find older Sorensen catalogs, you might be able to find when it was introduced.  I suspect it predates the Chinese clones.

The possibility of cheap product lines is also open, as slurry said.

The clones never use the same quality parts as the originals. They use cheap shite components and often even change the circuits to cheaper versions. I can vouch for the quality of original Sorensen gear,  they're fantastic. I own several and have never had a single hiccup out of them.

It looks like Tektronix used the same case/front panel on their PS283 power supply, although that one does only 1A on the 30V supplies. Those were 1991 vintage according to the user manuals: http://www.tek.com/ps280-manual/ps280-ps283-user-manual

Pretty sure the Tektronix cheap bench instruments instroduced in the early nineties were designed and produced in Taiwan by an OEM under the Tektronix name. That they were discontinued just a couple of years later. The OEM might have been GW-Instek or Escort. Not exactly a good counter-example of cheap rebranded units .

However these do look rather much identical to the Sorensen posted above, maybe Sorensen did buy from the same OEM?

The one in the eBay auction says made in Malaysia, so it does not appear to be made by the same company.
