It was stated in the video that you need 5 QUALITY posts in order to enter. Posting shit questions and spamming the forum doesn't suffice. Dave will be checking the posts if you are drawn, and he will reject you if you don't meet the criteria.
You can get your post count up by taking the time to read the threads on the forum and then write stuff that's actually relevant and other people find helpful. Writing useless bullshit will not get you any points.

I am curious though, how do most companies work with EEs? Does your boss just say "We need a product that does X Y and Z, you have 6 months."?

I certainly hope the boss or company wouldn't go with that approach, that's the reason we have so many pointless devices out there. Developing an idea into a product then trying to find an application. You need to start with a 'need ' first that is based on the concept of operation then derive your requirements so you are not constrained to a particular solution enforced by the boss.
