LASER printer and DVD writer LASER diode list (common used diode sources)
(1/1)
Tony777:
I was had a few old laser printers and was wondering if there is a list somewhere of the laser diodes in common laser printers and DVD writers, other common laser equipment items and if they are IR or visible diodes. I tried Sams Laser Faq but it didn't have any info. Does anyone know or even have an idea of the power level and wavelength/color? Specifically for the Laserjet 6L, Canon LBP860, and common DVD writers. Can someone please help?
castingflame:
AFAIK a bit percentage of 'Laser' printers are LED not Laser.

Laser printers that are smaller than a car invariably use rather boring low power IR diodes, a lot of compact printers are as mentioned above, LED page printers. These are often referred to as "laser class". DVD and Bluray drives use visible lasers, red and violet respectively. Writers have much more powerful lasers than readers.

Your ‘free’ device storage is probably costing more over the long term than buying new laser diodes when you need them.
You have no specs or quality info on ‘old’ parts.  This can have significant consequences.
Lasers are as cheap as - until you push up past 1W...
