Leaning electroncis by teaching (YA)
« on: March 01, 2020, 07:01:33 pm »
Hey guys, Youkai's Artificery (YA) here. I'm starting a twitch/youtube where I build cosplay/video game props, especially ones that use 3D printing and electronics. The EEVBlog forum has been a tremendous help with my current project. Getting help with the schematic though doesn't help me understand why I made the changes that were recommended. So I thought I would make some "learn electronics" youtube videos and do the time honored "learn by teaching" method.

I saw this post on reddit recently: https://www.reddit.com/r/electronics/comments/fbcv64/a_very_simple_usb_cable_5v_led_testing_circuit/ and I thought that little projects like this would be the perfect way to learn/explain things like current flow, etc. I'd like my learn electronics videos to be made of things like that so that they are more fun than simple "lets learn how resistance works" type things.

So I'm looking for a few things here.

First, any links you might have to similar projects like the reddit one which are simple and could be used to demonstrate/explain either concepts in electronics or how specific components work (potentiometers, NeoPixel LED's, etc.)

Second, even if you don't have a link to an explanatory project; any concepts/components you think would be important for beginner/intermediate people to learn. I don't know if it's a beginner thing but for example in my current project someone recommended a BAT54S before my NeoPixel. I really don't understand why that's in the circuit, other than it helps prevent the NeoPixel from blowing out. So that is something I'll probably plan on covering in a video.

Third, I'll be learning these things as I build the videos for YouTube so I'm definitely going to need some help learning the concepts and checking my scripts. What would be the proper place to put a thread for that purpose? Is "Projects, Designs, and Technical Stuff" the correct place?

If you are interested about my current project here is my build log document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UCf8qaZgw3GsMXFvT55gbCp3WXba2CDr0ZiEJwghIu4/edit
