How do I know where pin one is on this, so I can replace. Thanks Michael

Thanks I really could tell if that was a dot or not, yeah the chip I bought is already programmed. Michael

It's also marked on the PCB silkscreen, the notch indicates the end with pin 1. With the chip right side up, pin 1 is always the bottom-left corner, most of the time the text is printed right side up on the IC however I have seen pictures of a few examples where this wasn't the case. Never personally encountered one though.
