Siglent 2042X as a test tone generator
« on: July 23, 2023, 05:59:44 am »
Could the 2042X be configured in a manner to output a sine wave to be used as a test tone generator into a small speaker at a very low output voltage?

Would need to make this an AC waveform to not damage the voice coil.

This would also be into an 8 ohm load.

Sounds simple enough but wanted to ask before I create any magic smoke... :-BROKE

Yep no problem.

Ordinary output is p-p either side (+) of 0V and short circuit protected.

Thank you... :-+

What would be a good voltage? I was initially trying about 30-50mV @500Hz
but didn't want to take it any higher before I asked here.

As the output is a 50 Ohm source an 8 Ohm load will pull levels down so start increasing output until you get the levels you need.
FWIW I'd start at 100mV then increase in 100mV steps.

Should I use a 50 ohm adapter?

You could which would give you a 25 Ohm source for the speaker but I don't believe it is necessary.

We sold a SDG810 a few years back to a chap that wanted to investigate so called healing frequencies and IIRC we never terminated the output and just drove the speaker directly.
He was an acquaintance and I think I delivered and proved it would do what he needed, which of course it did.
Far too long ago to remember the settings....you'll work it out.  ;)
