Help finding a jellybean optocoupler for PWM
« on: January 20, 2022, 11:38:02 am »
Hello, I need a relatively low cost and easily available optocoupler for controlling a half bridge driver (IR2104) with PWM. This is for driving a DC motor, so I need it to be able to switch at least 5kHz with reasonable precision (10 bits maybe?), ideally a higher frequency but not really so much (using IGBTs).
I have tried looking at what local electronic stores have in stock, but haven't found anything enlightening.
Thanks!

The IR2104 is obsolete.

I recommend an isolated gate driver. The ADuM5230 is nice. A contractor designed a solenoid driver using it. A big advantage is it contains a built-in isolated power supply. A complimentary pair of emitter followers can be added to the outputs to give a higher peak output current.
