Limitations while communicating with LoRa Gateway

(1/1)

sairfan1:
While learning LoRa did not get answer to a question

For example if I have a Gateway that supports 8 nodes in parallel (node could be SX1276/78 or any other module, or you can recommend some for such task)
I have 50 nodes to send data to Gateway
What will happen if more than 8 nodes sends data to Gateway at the same time,
Is there some mechanism that can handle such situation in LoRa devices/protocol

My question is not regarding any project, its only about concept, that's why I'm not mentioning any specific gateway or node devices, if its something necessary you can assume some most suitable for the task

Once i understand it enough then i will go further to buy devices and develop proof of concept
thanks,

What you're asking about is a specific, detailed case of the general "how is collision detection/avoidance/recovery/compensation handled?"

Unsurprisingly, there is research into the topic.
https://fernandokuipers.nl/papers/WiNTECH2018.pdf is one paper I found, specific to the LoRaWAN collision performance and packet delivery rate.

https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/forum/t/universal-lora-wan-gateway-limitations-because-physics/1749/12 has a more simplified, easier to quickly grasp discussion of the topic as well. If your projected use falls well under that, you may not need to dive into the denser research paper.

sairfan1:
thanks, which lorawan gateway would you recommend

sokoloff:
Can't make a personal recommendation as I've only done single-channel proof-of-concept LoRa work so far.
