Looking for elbow length nitrate gloves
« on: May 02, 2021, 06:24:34 pm »
When I refurbish/repair old equipment, it is often necessary to reach in and scrub, de-grease, and do whatever it needs to be done.  Often, I'd rather not do it with my bare hands, so I use gloves.  Regular disposables are often too short.  Veterinary gloves are too flimsy and baggy.  Surgeon's gloves are too expensive, and I don't need it to be sterile.  I need it disposable too.

Does anyone know a source I can buy from USA that sells elbow or longer length nitrate or vinyl gloves in small (100s) quantity?

It's nitrile rubber. Nitrates are rather too stiff for the purpose and often soluble in water :P

Wow!  Over $1000 for a case!

Why disposable?  I really don't want to clean the gloves after they get gunked up with dust saturated with oil and tabacco mixture.... or whatever those paste like resides are made of.

That's a case of 1000 - so $2 a pair. Pretty fair price. Plus, you can buy a pack of 100 (which was one of your requirements along with being nitrile and elbow length) for $145. That's still a fair price for a low-demand product that meets all your specs.

I guess so....  I'm going to have to rethink the way I'm approaching this.  While reasonably priced, as you pointed out, it's too much for my hobby use.

Thanks for the information.  I do appreciate it.

I typed "elbow length rubber gloves" into ebay... Interesting. Nothing for 'engineering' use, but plenty of choices in a range of colors. Washable too. I then changed the search to "nitron oil resistant industrial gauntlets". I think that's what you might be wanting to search for.

It must be a regional thing.  When I search eBay on that, I see nothing relevant.

Depending on what the stuff is you don't want on your arms, you could wrap them in cling film and then just wear regular disposable nitrile gloves. I've done that before :)

Check out a local farmer or supply for those colic and breach cases that occur. Full up to the armpit :palm:

Voltage does not flow, nor does voltage go.

Thanks for the picture.  I wasn't quite sure what you were referring to but that makes it clear.  They seem to be called "veterinary gloves" in US.  I may have to investigate this further even though I discarded it as potential candidate.  I can buy 50 pieces for $10 on Amazon.  I prefer tight fitting nitrate but prices are just too high for my budget.  I'd imagine if they were made to be worn for a doc to put his hands into animal's orifices, they should be leak free and strong enough.

I'm going to either just order one and see what comes or ask my vet for her opinion.
