:: hirschmanns test set show n tell ::
« on: March 31, 2014, 11:42:33 am »
>>edit, this thread started as a kinda search for some grab claw test probes, it ended well. i added lotsa photos of this hirschmanns test set i bought. i thought it be interesting for you guys to see. (photos are in blog link at last post)

hi folks, i am looking at getting some quality hook grippers or mini jaws
the purpose is to get a good contact on components but mostly for a solid grab on tiny leads with some reach into odd places. i have some standard J-hooks, but the small version is kind of wee bit flimsy on the grip sometimes and sends readings going on a rollercoaster of sorts.

i saw this
http://sg.element14.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=152735
(the PDF and the element14 page product description is not in sync, the webpage seems to be showing the wrong item)
does anyone have any advice? or anything to recommend will be great too :D

thanks in advance

Hey 3roomlab here is what i am using it works great for hooking on to transistor and resistor like components.

http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1782447.pdf

They are a bit expensive but I really like the quality of them I have had them for 5 years now and they are still in good shape.

here is a good .pdf file from HIRSCHMANN TEST AND MEASUREMENT with some of there products.

Take care

fwiw, avoid all alligator and clip jumpers from china.  the last bunch I got had the colors PAINTED or dyed on white wires and it came off on your hands.  not only that but the metal on the hooks is so soft and weak, its useless.

moral: only buy name brand ez-hooks (etc).  never ever ever buy china no-name ones.  they are worse than useless (you will buy them and get angry and throw them away.)

be aware that new/oldstock grabbers won't have nice shiny metal contacts like new ones would.  sometimes the oxydation can be pretty high even in a 'sealed' bag, depending on where its located.  I've gotton some that are usable but not really as clean as I had hoped (and they were 'sealed', too).

yes indeed, but most of the clip in stores in my locality are made in china, i think even the lower ranges in farnell/RS etc are also rebadge made in china (we just cant escape them). i think every single guy meddling with electronics have used them and are still using them until something starts to shake, fall off, get jiggly wiggly and measurements become a tad too fiddly to read haha (yes and get angry throw them away !)

Yep, the only product i have found that looked like it might be OK was from:
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/group/Test-Hook-Test-clip/428886_252719766.html

Haven't got/need any from them yet.

Looks like they get some of their stuff from the same supplier/manufacturer I get my stuff from :) They sell in larger volume and price the products per piece, I sell retail volume and price my stuff per pair. I am pretty sure they are not the manufacturer themselves though as they also have on offer some other more common Chinese products from other sources.
