Low temp LF paste Mechanic V8BN45, Sn42Bi58
« on: February 06, 2024, 05:42:24 am »
Does anyone have any experience with this solder paste? Planning to use it in a t962a oven.
Is this compatible with the Amtech NC-31 profile?

Don’t buy that crap. It doesn’t even know what it is: “SAC305 Sn42Bi58” is a contradiction, since those describe two very different alloys:
SAC305: 96.5% tin, 3% silver, 0.5% copper
Sn42Bi58: 42% tin, 58% bismuth

That contradiction tells you that the seller doesn’t know (or doesn’t care) what they’re selling, so who knows what you’ll get. Probably counterfeit god-only-knows-what.

Given that you can order a tub of bismuth-based low-temp solder paste from ChipQuik (a reputable vendor) for the same price (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Smooth-Solder-Paste-Bi57-6-Ag0-4/dp/B08KWLLFT4 ) I don’t know why you’d dick around with Chinese crap.

As for the profile: that’s fundamentally determined by the alloy, not the manufacturer. So the profile Amtech recommends for their Sn42Bi58 (and similar alloys) solder will work with anyone else’s Sn42Bi58 (or similar) solder.
