Hello one and all Could someone tell me why the leads that came with this meter are so short (I'm assuming there is a reason), and is there any reason why I shouldn't change them for something longer with probes on the end rather than the cumbersome alligator clips that are difficult to use in small spaces. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I really am quite new to this. Many thanks in advance to anyone shedding light on this. |

You'll get more error in readings with long leads. Also if you use long leads, both of them should be attached together to basically make a single cable, otherwise readings will significantly vary depending on the cable position because of series inductance change. |

Thanks for the reply Wraper. Do you mean the wires should be taped/twisted together so they are close to each other but not actually connected (core to core)? If this is the case I will make up a new set. One of the reasons I bought this unit was that I thought it could be used to test capacitors without having to remove them from the board, but the short length and awkward clips don't make it easy. |

You could tape them together at say each 10 cm of distance. |
