Metallized Polyester Film Capacitors
« on: February 19, 2011, 12:07:27 am »
The capacitor has a DC rating, but neither end is marked +/-   ???

http://www.vishay.com/docs/42091/v430p.pdf

Works either way ??   :-\

A .47micro-F is being used in parallel with a 400V 40A diode in a 125VDC circuit.

These caps are non-polarised, so can be used any way round.
Only caps that use 'special' dielectrics to achieve high capacitances are polarity sensitive - e.g. electrolytic, tantalum, aluminium polymer.

Mike's Electric Stuff: High voltage, vintage electronics etc.
Day Job: Mostly LEDs

Well now, that just takes all the potential for excitement out of this circuit !  ;D

Thank you very much.

Yes they're non-polarised and note how much larger they are than electrolytics of the same value and voltage rating.
