Meter Movement

(1/1)

codingwithethanol:
I was fiddling around with magnet wire and was trying to make some diy relays, and I had the idea to try to make a analog meter or something else interesting. After a bit of googling I found nobody else even attempting this, simply "lol buy a meter movement from china and bias it". Is there something inherently complicated about it or do my google-fu skills suck? For example, there are plenty of videos showing how to make diy relays, heres one:
heres another:

whereas this is the best I could find for making a meter movement, but its basically just a current indicator not really a "meter" per se:

Bumping the thread since no one has dropped by. Just for the cynics, I'm not trying to make a serious functional meter, just a little dinky proof-of-concept thing that rotates in proportion to current or voltage. My question is why nobody has come up with a simple little way to DIY this, as I have seen relays and mini steam engines made from random bits and bobs.
