Title: Slimline SATA and mSATA connectors, where to find them
Post by: senso on May 21, 2015, 12:03:26 pm
Good morning, so I'm hunting some microSata and mSata connectors, but I can't really find what I need.
Basically I need a male(or is it female) Slimline SATA that will connect to a laptop motherboard and then an mSata connector that will be used for an SSD, why an mSata SSD, because I want the space to keep my extra fan in the bay space as well still having an SSD and keeping the 7200rpm spinning hdd for storage.
The micro sata connector that I'm looking for is the one inside the red rectangle:

The other connector is the mSata, like this one from Molex, but one that is not obsolete:

The substitute they suggest is a bit thicker, but lacking options it will work.

Best regards.

mSATA uses standard Mini-PCIe edge connectors. These are wildly available.

E: And the micro-SATA didn't take much finding: http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/1735443-2/A119283-ND/4897902 (http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/1735443-2/A119283-ND/4897902)

I was searching primarily at Mouser, because there are group buys from there every month, Digikey to Portugal will put that single connector at over 20€ due to shipping and VAT+customs.
EDIT:
That connector wont fit, I think I finally discovered the magic word, its a slimline sata!  |O
It mates into this sort of connector:

Let us know how you get on! Always good to see PC modding involving more than bolting together off-the-shelf components with flashy LEDs on 'em.

Thanks, already requested a Molex clip thing that will secure the SSD, and 3 mini PCI Express slots of different sizes.
Will work on the PCB and cad design of the box in the weekend.
